This week, a video of Common freestyling by chance on the street went viral. Not only did Common deliver a powerful verse, but he was also joined by another man in the video who was equally adept in the skill of freestyle.
Freestyling is an art form, it is likely one of the oldest reminders of the beginnings of hip-hop. Online, one Twitter user engaged the art of freestyle noting that it takes a lot of chutzpah and skill in order to accomplish a freestyle, particularly in a public space. It is for this reason that Ginger Trill, VOTY 2017 award winner, took the time to humbly excuse himself from the exercise. This doesn't take away from his artistry, however, and as freestyling is given its props, it is equally important to note that freestyling alone isn't the only requirement.
So nervous I just stopped trying it lol https://t.co/cSYPI195xw
