@ProVerbMusic Buys Back The Masters To "The Book Of ProVerb"

By @Nokulunga_Maqubela on 04/24/2019 in News

A master license gives the license holder the right to use a recorded piece of music in a media projects such as a film, TV Show, commercial, or another visual creation or audio project. A masters license is obtained from the person who owns the recording, which is the party that financed the recording. So, at a basic level, a record label owns the master recording license (unless you're an independent artist, in this case the artist owns their work).

Plenty of artists do not own their work, this in turn can often result in disputes between the artists and the record label owners. Recent example is that of De La Soul and the groups former label, Tommy Boy. In this case, De La Soul's catalog was not made available on digital streaming platforms due to royalty disputes. Creating a conversation around this issue that has troubled numerous artists for years, some act on it.

Just a month ago, hip hop celebrated 14 years of the classic album The Book of ProVerbToday, the author, ProVerb, celebrates buying back the music masters to this very album. With 5 albums under his belt, 3 (Write of Passage, FourtWrite, and The Read Tape) of which he owned, ProVerb now adds his debut album to the list, and has announced to be re-mastering the classic to be re-released. Secure your assets while securing the bag. Major moves from the O.G.
