The complexities of Coloured identity politics often take scholars years to make sense. For YoungstaCPT, understanding the dynamics of his people and making that comprehensible to his listeners in music is of the utmost importance.
In the second part of his Balcony Interview, Slikour and Youngsta unpack some of the intricacies of life in the hood as a Coloured person. While lightly touching on politics, the two bring the conversation even closer when Slikour notes what his home dynamic is given the different racial backgrounds of his home. As the conversation turns personal, Youngsta goes on to share the story of his father's life and subsequent passing.
The rapper also clears up a rumour that surfaced in the months leading up to Afropunk 2018. The rumour alleges that Youngsta victimized a gay man by recording him and asking "What is that," then posting the video to social media. When asked to clear up what happened, Youngsta explained that he not only does not drink, especially so as a Muslim man, but that he seldom uses social media, so the man in the video was certainly not him.
Finally, Youngsta gets a little into the status of his love life, but for that, you'll have to watch the interview below!
