@YoungstaCPT Discusses Moving Merchandise, #3T, Nipsey Hussle, & More On The Balcony

By @MisaNarrates on 04/17/2019 in Balcony Interview

YoungstaCPT dropped what is arguably the most well thought out album of 2019 to date. THINGS TAKE TIME, 3T was like an ode to Youngsta's past, present, future, and more especially it was an ode to the Coloured community of Cape Town in particular. Given this, it should come as no surprise that Slikour wanted to have one of the county's most popping rappers come in for a Balcony Interview.

In their 90-minute Balcony Interview, Youngsta covered everything from his time as a clothing retailer to his time creating the album, and everything in between. In the first part of his interview, Slikour and Youngsta get into the details of his childhood business, being selling clothes and, more notably, sneakers. This activity is what influenced his verses on "Takkies," in fact. Additionally, they get into Youngsta's lived experience in the hood, as well as some of the very specific comments he made on the album about the friends he once had.

The legacy of Nipsey Hussle is also one that definitively impacts hip-hop and culture, especially through the lens of learning the teachings of the fallen rapper. In this episode of the Balcony, Youngsta and Slikour get into how the spirit of Nipsey can be seen in the Cape Town-based rapper's own life. More so, remaining in the line of meaningful and poignant subject matter, the two begin to engage the complexities of the Coloured experience and identity.
