Riky Rick's Family Values recently turned four years old. In celebration, the rapper brought out his friends in the industry to celebrate with him. Set in Braamfontein, participants in South Africa's hip-hop music scene showed up in nothing but drip. Guests descended a staircase lit by candles and decorated with pink, red, and white flower petals. The venue was the picture of opulence and the guests looked just as good. In partnership with Remy Martin, Riky's soiree was a beautiful affair.

Industry parties tend to come across as pretentious; with attendees trying to pitch themselves into working with someone, "network," or letting their ego lead their engagements. The Family Values celebration was a far cry from this. Guests like Frank Casino, L-Tido, and Moozlie, to name a few, looked like they were simply catching up with their friends. In fact, the feeling in the room was similar to that moment when all of your cousins show up to Christmas lunch.

With five signature drinks on tap and plates upon plates of food, the event was delicious. After horse devours and the main course was served, Riky took to the center of the room and addressed his peers. For Riky, events like his shouldn't be the only place where they link up. He urged his guests to make it a point to "do this more often." He went on to share that his family is what has propelled him forward throughout the duration of his career, most importantly his relationship with his long time partner and the mother of his children, Bianca. In fact, he shared more online in the days after the function (see below).

After talking to his crowd a bit more, Riky opened up with a soulful rendition of some of the most memorable songs from his catalog. One of which, and likely the most soulful version of the song performed that night, was "Stay Shining." There aren't enough words to eloquently describe the emotion in the room. However if we were to try, the one word that best describes how people felt is 'pride.' Riky Rick's career and life has had its wins and trying times, but in that moment, next to his Cotton Fest performance, the Family Values celebration was the strongest and happiest we've seen the rapper. When he sang his newest release, "Young And I," it should come as no surprise that the sting of happy tears made themselves known to a few guests.

In close, there's no telling whether or not Riky is going to continue releasing albums, hosting shows, or being the Riky that we've all come to enjoy and love. However, what can be said with confidence is that Riky has consistently contributed to South Africa's hip-hop scene and family, friends, and fans have been blessed to know him, personally and/or musically, over the years.
