For musicians, good times lead to making music.
Toya Delazy shared a story of the time she attended a female empowerment seminar last year. During the event, a cypher broke out, and being the hip hop fanatic that she is, she joined in on the cypher, dropping lyrics in isiZulu with clicking punchlines and chanting. From the experience, a song was born and when they decided to take the bars to studio, “gQoma” came to life. The song directly translates to “it bangs,” and it does.
Although no longer a South African resident, Toya is deeply rooted here and this always shows in her artistry. “gQoma” is no different. The visuals show her banging along with the beat, surrounded by various African sculptures in the background.
