Rep’ your own in your own.
It’s International Mother Language Day and I couldn’t help but think of all the dope lines that were dropped by some of my favourite rappers in their mother tongue. Although at most times I don’t understand what they are saying, like how Rouge switched from English to French on “Mbongo Zaka” when you least expected it, and give us that “Ooooh” moment, or how Reason played around with isiZulu and seSotho on “Salad,” the truth of the matter is, music goes straight to your heart if it’s in your language.
Hip hop has allowed room for diversity and the ability for one to express themselves in anyway and any language they feel free to use, and reach the kind of people they want to cater to, and in that is freedom. As we celebrate Mother Language Day, drop your favourite line that you heard in a rap song. Let's Go!!!
