Kool Out Concepts co-founder, Akio Kawahito, is an American DJ now residing in Joburg and has made championing South Africa's sounds to the rest of the world his mission. The versatile DJ is currently in Bangkok, Thailand where he just played his first show last week Friday, with two more shows to go. Akio's Thailand touch down marks the 4th continent he's graced with his performances what with being a regular in Africa, America, and Europe already. Just last year, the DJ played shows in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Oslo, and Stockholm spreading the good African flavour in his hip hop, afrobeats, and soul inspired sets. Apart from him being the globe trotter that he is, he and his partners at Kool Out play a pivotal role in curating music in the Joburg scene with their monthly Koolin In The City rooftop party. Added to that, the sister company to Kool Out Concepts, Alchemy SA, brought down some of the most memorable guests to the South African shore when they hosted Anderson .Paak, Low End Theory, Mick Jenkins, Tom Misch, and SiR. I was fortunate enough to attend the SiR show and I must say that that night is one to remember - for a lot of reasons actually but you're not here for my life story.
