Back to the City is back again this year with the powerful theme of "The Freedom Charter." After announcing that post 2021 the heralded festival will come to an end, we are on a countdown to the last one - much to our sadness. However, the positive thing about that announcement is that the Ritual Media Group will focusing on curating and maintaining the first ever SA Hip Hop Museum which will be housed at Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg.

Back to the City festival has an activity called the Power Play 10K Challenge that sees dope emcees walk away with R 10 000 every year. They have just kicked off the tour in the Eastern Cape with Zakwe, El Nino (Driemanskap), and DJ Kyotic taking to various institutions finding gems that can qualify for the finals on the 27th of April 2019. If you know you've got the bars and have been looking for a platform to show yourself, I'd keep my eyes peeled to this tour to make sure I get a chance to partake when it comes to my hood.
