Alternative hip-hop is here to stay with artists straddling genres and making that the norm. One such musician is Passionfruitdilla, blending sounds from genres like jazz, funk, and traditional hip-hop. In addition to working on his own solo project, he is part of De Adventr, a duo between himself and Dead Badhu. The pair mix soul and hip hop, if one tried their best to siphon at least two genres out of their brand of alternative hip-hop.
The topic of interest in recent days is Dilla’s latest music video for his single “Promise.” The video catches attention for it’s 90’s/early 2000’s style production. Visual references like early days in Tyler The Creator’s music video career come to mind when watching Dilla lay out the storyline for his music video.
Passionfruitdilla’s EP, Tell My Momma Sorry, comes out this year, though we don’t have a release date as yet. For now, the music video for “Promise” will have to keep viewers entertained.
