It's New Music Friday and it's safe to say that we are well in the swing of things as the year has had a rather slow start, which we welcome to be honest. Something tells me we are in for a fast ride in 2019 where music is concerned and that too is rather exciting.
Dj Citi Lyts kicks the year off with a new scorcher titled "Cel'Ukuthi" where he calls on the ghetto fabulous lyricists Touchline, Gigi Lamayne, and Red Button to sprinkle their hood cool onto the track. There's a strong kwaito influence on this number, something reminiscent of what the late, great PRO would swiftly body. Which reminds me, this track is so perfect in how it happens to house some of his legacy holders in one way or another. I'm highly impressed by Touchline's clean vocals on the track, not that that's surprising given his "Ung'phethe Kahle" single last year. Gigi Lamayne stands her ground without so much as a finger lift as she bosses up with her unforgettable flow and undeniable cadence. This girl is insanely gifted with this rap and I have high hopes for her in this new year. Last but not least is Red Button, who made a resurgence last year with his incredible EP, Dark Knights. From the incoming star to the seasoned scholar and a buzzing queen, this track has all the goodness for your pay-day weekend. Tuck in, tilt your spoti, and let's take it back to kasi!
