@Bas Talks About His Upbringing, The Milky Way Tour & His Bucket List

By @Nokulunga_Maqubela on 12/21/2018 in On The Ground

Shortly after his South African leg of the Milky Way tour, we sat down and caught up with DreamVille rapper, Bas, as he took us through his experience in the Muthaland.

We began by getting to know the man better as he shared with us his upbringing, mentioning his Sudanese, African, and American origins, he tells us what he identifies with the most without losing his identity. Bas reveals how that the fact that African artists feel the need to make Western influenced sounds to be accepted is no more as things have changed in such a way that Americans are now largely inspired by the African sound. He fills us in on the African artists he would like to work with, reflecting back on his South African tour, he names Jo'burg to be his best crowd yet. On his relationship with J Cole, he talks us through how thy have known each other, the influence he has had on his sound, and how the goal for his Milky Way album was to put his own personality into it. Check out the rest on our chat below, and find out what's in the rappers bucket list:
