YoungstaCpt brings history to life in his monumental motion picture for his latest single, YVR, which he announced as a completely pleasant surprise about a week ago.
While fans who clearly haven't paid attention to the song's lyrics ask why Youngsta would do a song about a "bad man," the Cape Crusader brings the narrative to full life in his cutting edge visual. Set at the foot of Africa where traders landed many moons ago, YoungstaCpt is geared up in renaissance cloth as he flips history to depict his stronghold on the game. In the same breathe, he relives history by depicting a group of coloured slaves (a very intentional image by the way) as he continues to speak for his people by illustrating them as oppressed. While you awe at the visual quality of the music video itself, you will also appreciate the attention to detail taken with every costume and touch point of the story. My favourite thing about this short film is that even with the heaviness, there is light at the end of the tunnel as we see the slave owner (or trader) washed to shore while the slaves run free ditching their shackles. Do we need to keep reminding the world why we swear by this man? YoungstaCpt is not only the truth, but he is that candle light in a dark, cold room. Have a look at the visual below:
