After months of releasing music and doing features, Yung Swiss finally announced he would be dropping a follow up to Bottom Baby, titled Bottom Baby ll last month. Today the rapper fulfills his promise as he releases a 14 track EP which features artists like Astryd Brown, DJ Speedsta, Doug, and Riky Tyler.
Though not the best of lyricists, Yung Swiss has always done a great job in telling his story through slick bars and melodies over the years and this project continues on the same trajectory. As you listen, you get to hear Swiss tell stories of struggle, love, pain, hope, and success. Tracks like Koffi, Wavey, Diamonds Dancing, and Xikwembu see the rapper in his musical comfort zone as they perfectly embody his melodic trap creative abilities. The lyrical content on these tracks range from brags about success and money, to him spitting about the struggles he has been through to get to where he is. It wouldn't be a complete project from the Xikwembu nation leader if he did not include some love songs on the project and on songs like Te Amo, Runaway, and Lies (Interlude) he does just that. I still can't get over the cold response the rapper gives when dealing with being caught cheating on Lies (Interlude).
The project also sees him experiment with some dancehall and afrobeat influenced music on Just Dance, as well as Changes. These two songs see the rapper make an attempt at speaking some Nigerian Pidgin and Jamaican Patwah. Other songs on the project include Open Your Mind, Dazy, A Down Town Tale featuring Ricky Tyler, Dear Nation, and the previously released lead single Die Yung.
Given the fact that the first edition of the Bottom Baby sequel was a game changer, sonically, as very few artists in the game owned the sound the rapper came with, a follow up was always going to be an uphill battle. But the rapper managed to create another sonically consistent dance album that still articulates what the rapper is about very well. Purchase the new body of work below.
