It's been a heavy past week as the country over has been mourning the loss of SA hip hop hero, Linda "PRO" Mkhize who passed away on the eve of National Women's Day this year. His memorial service was held last week Thursday where his family, fans, and industry colleagues celebrated his life before laying him to rest this past Sunday.
After his memorial, news emerged that the hip hop and music community at large is hosting a tribute concert in his honour this coming Sunday, 26th August 2018, at Zone 6 in Soweto to not only continue to honour him, but to raise funds for a good cause. PRO is survived by a 3 year old daughter whom the hip hop community saw fit to roll up their sleeves to get involved in assisting her in all that she might need in future, particularly where education is concerned. What's that powerful African proverb? It takes a village to raise a child. That's right! So, the Dankie San tribute concert has seen industry colleagues from all walks of life come together to put on a show which has now grown to a total of 64 acts stemming from an added line up that was announced this morning. All funds raised from the ticket sales at this event will be put into an interest-bearing education trust for little Nonkanyezi. This, I believe, is only the beginning as all the parties involved in this project have their hearts set on doing more to ensure that Nonkanyezi and her immediate family is free of any strain in the future where education is concerned. This is the most encouraging thing I have seen in a very long time in this industry and the positive energy is contagious.
VIP tickets for the event are already sold out, but we have a mission to sell out the general tickets as well. Make sure you do the right thing as soon as that pay-day SMS vibrates your phone. SEE YOU THERE? It shouldn't be any other way. Dankie San!
