We would like to introduce to you an exciting new act repping for the Vaal Triangle, Plug n Play, which fuses traditional Sesotho and Xhosa elements to new sounds in hip hop. The duo, made up of Xoli Guqaza and Sam Sekoli, take you on a trip in their latest single, Leshome.
We are reeling in excitement at the uniqueness of the sound from this pair as the hook houses a predominantly Sotho folk singing influence with the incredible beat being of a reggae and trap flavour. Xoli also jumps in with a new age Xhosa flow on his verse against the backdrop of the groovy beat after Sam has delivered his fun verse in Sesotho. Words cannot explain how refreshing such a sound is from young, up-and-coming musicians. Now more than ever, there is a mandate for proudly African sounds and artistic expressions, this kind of music gives me hope that the future of hip hop is in safe hands with a generation that embraces who they are.
