@asonleaux - Leaux EP

By @Lenoir on 07/20/2018 in Projects You Should Hear

A young rapper from Cape Town by the name of Ason has just released his debut EP, Leaux, which houses a total of nine songs with only one feature from Veezo View assisting on a song titled Champagne. The project showcases a mixture of different sounds from Ason's melodies and raps, to the production, the rapper illustrates his versatility off for the listener.

Leaux kicks off with the opening song, Swisher, and much like the other songs on the project, it's psychedelic and finds Ason switching from melodies to raps from time to time. He does the same in the following song, Prada, where he does a great job in displaying his lyrical abilities as a way to put other rappers in their place. The HLBAK production on Militia helps bring the song to life where, in the beginning, we hear sounds reminiscent to those you'd normally hear at a military march.

Prophecies has a more suspenseful sound and finds Ason at his most confident where he speaks about his transition from his lows to being at the top of his game. He continues this narrative and his indisputable confidence in the following song, No Love/ Sacrifices; "Not afraid to go and say I'm top 5, I was watching you n%*&as, most of you washed out." Towards the end of the song, we get a feel of some club-friendly songs namely Flick, Afterdark, Champagne with Veezo View, as well as Wave where young Ason shows us a movie while flexing on these gents. The theme of the project is to highlight Ason's move from Cape Town to Johannesburg with the hopes of making it big in the Gauteng music industry. He proclaimed Leaux as one of the best releases of 2018, give it a listen and tell us what you think about it.
