Cop @Gigi_Lamayne #VIEP Today!

By @Spokenpriestess on 07/13/2018 in News

Gigi Lamayne is not here to play games with you! The arrival of her highly promoted EP, VI, is upon us and it's sounding rather solid with four all new tracks on the project.

She opens it with the fierce title track which makes a statement about her ferocity with the bars. More than anything, this track serves as a reminder that she can tear the mic apart if she pleases - in case we forgot. This is followed by her current single Twinkle with Londie London which continues with the bars but is more on the emotional side of things. When Gigi dropped this song, you could hear her hopeful and triumphant spirit through the encnouraging hook as well as the personal lyrics. It's no different on the EP.

VI is a prelude to her upcoming album and you'll hear that the project has fusions of many elements like trap, RnB, and of course that hardcore boom bap delivery she's well versed in. Gigi immediately comes through with a bossy sounding Roll which is filled with braggadocio about her finesse. She's on her smack talk with this one and she shows a fun, yet dangerous side of herself on this song. Halfway through the EP you've already gotten a chunky serving of Gigi's versatility as far as music and flow is concerned. Speaking of versatility, the first single she dropped when she announced her signing with Ambitiouz Entertainment, Iphupho, comes on where she shines the light on her singing. Even though we know this song, it fits very well into the EP's story of hope, victory, and the will to keep fighting and survive by any means necessary. This song is very personal to Gigi as she's been through quite a tough time finding completeness and a renewed energy these past months.

She comes back with an affirmative track in Baddest In The Game featuring Eminent Fam where she acknowledges her greatness. We all need to own our dope ever so often and after all the pain and darkness she sang about on Iphupho, this is like a mirror hype session affirming just who she isHaving Eminent Fam sing the hook removes her from sounding arrogant allowing anyone else who sings along to the hook to fully own it. I love what she did here, a perfectly balanced humble brag of sort. The closing track, Stimela, is another head bopper that will grab your attention the minute she starts spitting. She brings out her ghetto fabulous with her vernac raps and kasi taal on lock. The trappy song fuses all her different sides into one explosive universe. The classic, "Stimela sase Zola," sing along matched up with the grungiest of rhymes delivered with conviction on the track is sheer genius. Someone woke the dragon in Gigi and now we're all in trouble!

This EP is everything fans need to know about the fact that Gigi is on the ball and that she plans to own her spot in the game. It's a much needed oasis too as she hasn't dropped concrete music in a long time. We're loving the use of the number VI to signal completeness and revelation. Its spiritual meaning is of good luck as it revolves around the opening of doors to a new path which is currently what Gigi is undergoing as she prepares to drop her album. I think the best thing about this EP is that the Gigi we all came to love for her relentless bars is reignited. Lord knows we've missed her and I think she's also in a good space to deliver on who she truly is in the music. We're here for all that!
