This weekend saw the annual South African Music Awards take place at the Sun City Resort in North West where the cream of the crop in music were awarded with coveted gongs to celebrate their achievements and artistry. After seeing how well represented SA Hip Hop was at the awards this year, we waited with baited breath to see if we would walk away with anything and to no surprise, Shane Eagle and Rouge showed up for us.
Congratulations to @Shane_Eagle & @Rouge_Rapper ???????? S.A Hip Hop

Rouge won Music Video of the Year for Arumtumtum on the night before the main event was screened live, and Big Mac as well as her mother accepted the award on her behalf in her absence. Check out her message after finding out she won:
I JUST WON MY FIRST SAMA AWARD! I wasn't there cause I'm quite sick. I know alot of people didn't expect me to take this... But GOD has me even when everyone counts me out! Thank you to everyone who believed in team rouge. We officially have a SAHHA, SAFTA and SAMA award#NES pic.twitter.com/p6oCPhikJJ

On the night of the main event, Rouge had a stage appearance at the awards performing her infectious hit, Dololo, which had the streets talking about her lyrical prowess while fans were still talking about her win from the previous night.
Incase you missed it ❤❤

Rouge is in her own lane. She’s a lyricist definitely. Owning the stage. She’s not the hip hop Queen, she’s the birth of the new era of Hip Hop #SAMA24 damn she’s hard. She looks like she’s was raised around rap battles.

I need to see that Rouge performance again.

Shane Eagle is the big winner of the weekend (where hip hop is concerned) as he scooped the Best Hip Hop Album gong much to the praise of his fans and music industry peers. His name trended for hours on Sunday as discussions over the awards continued online. Yellow, his debut album, has had a huge impact since its drop crossing the 2 Million streams mark within a few months of its release. He made mention about going on tour with the album last year and with this new accolade under his belt, the tour is most definitely a necessity. Congratulations to the Eagle for soaring high on this one!
