After much teasing, and a bit of hide and seek, the 88King finally reveals his latest single Mntan' Omuntu featuring the legendary Shwi NoMtekhala alongside Makwa. The track is as magical as you would've predicted it to be when you first heard about it. There's something so significant about the maskandi underbelly of the track. If there's one thing that Kid X always manages to do with his music, that's bring it back home for every South African to fully grasp.
Mntan' Omuntu is no different as to has a kwaito tinge in the beat (umzonkonko) which is fused with a new age dub on maskandi. The stature of this song just went to the next level with this collaboration as it immediately leaves the hip hop realm, crossing over to taxi ranks, pubs all over the hood, as well as the jukeboxes in the rural areas. I just love the feelings I'm getting from this song. Makwa mans the hook taking turns with X, and Shwi Nomthekala here and there. We're totally digging the singing on the song, all the voices on it match well. X doesn't leave the song without laying down his lethal mack game in top rap form. You honestly won't walk away from this track feeling like something's missing. Now, we no longer have to write a note saying, "Be my girl: Yes or No" 'cause Kid X just solved the problem.
