We finally get to see the official music video for the electronic bushman, Anatii's, Thixo Onofefe. After an exclusive premier last night at a gathering in one of the Ster-Kinekor theatres (in the North), Anatii shares his spiritually loaded art piece.
The visual is mad appealing not only for the styling, but for the display of African traditional practices of healing and spiritual figures. All throughout the video, while Anatii sings and raps his prayer, a little boy goes to different spiritual compasses (healers) collecting the 4 elements of life; earth, fire, water, and wind, to bring Anatii to life towards the end of the visual. This not only endorses a positive image about our age old traditional practices, but says to me that Anatii is in tune with the power of the universe and his people's authentic roots. I never thought I'd see the day when hip hop portrays our people's origins so unapologetically and my heart is swollen with joy at the intricacy of this music video. Most appealing to me, is how the little elements of pop culture (the dancing by the blue masked healer, Anatii's swag, and the beat itself) intertwine with the heavily cultural story which has stood the test of time. Magical work this!
