Midem is an annual event in Cannes where artists and brands from all around the world come together through music. One of the judges and this year's artist ambassador just so happens to be our own Black Coffee who prides himself in helping promote African music to take it to greater heights.
With the event already coming up, the Midem team has compiled a pre-selection playlist consisting of 55 songs in total, four of them being AKA's The World Is Yours, Big Star's Pablo with Zoocci Coke Dope, Rouge's No Strings and Tshego's Garden. Supa Mega also just got back from performing at the SXSW event in Texas while Big Star is getting ready to drop his debut album after teasing us with two new singles. Rouge on the other hand is dropping multiple music videos in promotion of New Era Sessions while her short film of the same title just scooped a whole SAFTA award. Tshego is finally going to drop his Pink Panther EP this year after working it on it for the past year sharing new singles off it.
This is a big deal because not only are their songs on an international playlist, this also gets them a step closer to attending an exclusive boot camp with their crews. "A programme designed to support managers, agents, labels, and publishers with their promotion strategy to grow the artist’s profile internationally." This will also be an opportunity for the artists to play their music live at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes from the 5th until the 8th of June once they're among the final 11 selected by the Artist Committee - ooh, fancy! Peep the program here. We'd like to wish AKA, Big Star, Rouge and Tshego luck with this and hope to hear the news that they'll all be flying to France making South Africa proud.
