Dj Supernova has been in the country for most of the festive season and we managed to catch up with him before he left for the states. We had a young chat with him where we discussed his experiences when he first came to South Africa and we picked up some interesting facts about him and his plans in terms of making music. Below are five things you should know about Dj Supernova.
1. Coming To SA Inspired The U(SA) Docuseries
The U(SA) Docuseries came from the idea of Supernova wanting to bridge the gap between local rappers and the emcees in the states. It was split into seven episodes where he spoke to different rappers and Djs discussing their come up and influences in the music industry.
2. The Naked Dj Put Him On Metro FM's Audiogasm To Provide Mixes In 2014
Upon his arrival in the country, he bumped into The Naked Dj and Lulo Cafe at a club where they all played. This then had The Naked Dj contact Supernova on being a part of his Audiogasm show on Metro FM by providing bi-weekly mixes.
3. He Had A Week-Long SA Tour In 2015
Supernova's interest in the South African culture and music inspired him to go on a tour that kicked off in the Vaal and finished off in Botswana. It was pretty rare to have an artist from the states do a full tour in an African country, this is something that I believe made him popular in the local scene. This was later followed by the U(SA) tour the following year.
4. He's Become A Confidant To Some SA Artists
Since he's constantly building connections with brands and other artists in South Africa, this made other artists seek advice from Supernova in terms of growing their brands internationally. He also mentions getting exclusive music from artists as well and having them ask for his advice and opinion of their songs before they're released.
5. He's Working With A-Reece, Emtee, Shane Eagle, and AKA
He has already posted pictures with A-Reece, Emtee, and AKA - and confirmed that something is indeed in the pipeline. He has also mentioned that he has something planned with Shane Eagle, stating that the rapper has great potential to make it big in the states. We can only wait and see what he has in-store for us.
