Kommanda Obbs has skillfully mastered the sound of Basotho from the Mountain Kingdom, Lesotho, by fusing the urban contemporary hip-pop beat and groove synched with his distinct, unavoidable growling yet melodic voice. He shares a new single titled Mabelebele.
Mabelebele are indigenous wild berries found in Lesotho (and other parts of Southern Africa). In the Sesotho dialect, they have been conceptualised, particularly in folk songs, to refer to the perceived standards of the good life and or materialistic values associated with it along cultural lines. Produced by Bosco Afreeca, the song focuses on defying the Western dream, which has been said, by theorists, to be the persuit of riches, fame and the material that come along with it as a sign of such an accomplishment. Kommanda Obbs boldly states his decline from such, making it clear that he is about the African dream. He is here to stand his ground and never to dumb it down nor be influenced by shallow trends. PULA.
