Eminem is set to release his highly anticipated album, Revival on the 17th of November, a follow-up to his Marshall Mathers LP2 which was released in 2013. In support of the forthcoming project, Em decided to bless fans with an unexpected collaboration between him and Beyonce for a song titled Walk On Water. The song generally details both artists' struggles during their careers. Many celebrities are expected to act a certain way and basically be superhuman in order to make their supporters happy. Eminem raps about the struggles he's endured and how people almost always expect him to top his previous work. The phrase “Walk on water” comes from Matthew 14:22-33, where Jesus walked across the water to his disciples.
The song uses the metaphor of “walking on water” to Em’s career - he's unable to do the impossible therefore he can't come back to the same level he was at in his peak. Beyonce stresses this as she sings about how she's only human. An interesting point about this song is that Rick Rubin had played it to Eminem and he liked it, Em later went on to play it for Jay-Z. Hov also had Beyonce listen to it, which is how the feature came about. This happened also with Dj Khaled's Shining which features Hov and Beyonce. Can't believe Eminem last released a single last year, his MTV Base cypher was a great build-up to the album. Eminem's back, baby!
