@Beatmochini Presents @SkilloSA - Radio Music EP

By @Spokenpriestess on 11/09/2017 in Stream & Download

One of Cap City's most unique rappers, Skillo, comes back onto the scene with a new project presented by Beatmochini titled Radio Music EP. The EP is so characteristic of his cross over and versatile sound as he explores many elements of his artistry.

Skillo has been quiet on the scene for a while now in terms of solo music releases and this EP is a glimpse of him in his full glory. The opening track Radio Music has that classic early 2000's beat production to it with the heavy percussion on the track as he welcomes you to the project with some playful rhymes. We're totally digging how they captured a taxi rank environment at the end of the song with street vendors and a queue marshall yelling to fill a taxi to his hood, Atteridgeville. The feel good atmosphere continues on Feel It In The Air accompanied by Les B who handles the hook. You already get that the influence of this project is more classic and old school by the time The Music falls in with its boom-bap elements in the beat. The track featuring N'veigh and Jojo maintains the good mood level as Skillo uses his signature ghetto fabulous flow on here, sounding so clear in his rhymes. You already know that N'veigh done showed up with his characteristic witty flows.

The EP then goes into a more world music sound on Slow It Down as Beatmochini opens the track with a nostalgic sample. You can tell that this project was recorded a long time ago with the tag on this song still labeled as, "Bang the keys Trompie." Skillo puts his happy chappie in the background for a more personal track asking for strength and sending gratitude to the heavens for the grace shown to him.

We swiftly move back into feel good mode on How I Do alongside his crew, The Band Academy. By now you've been exposed to multiple facets of Skillo's rhyme skill and song execution. This song is what we'd term for the "grown and sexy." Ei! Just as we're jamming, a familiar song comes in as his popular single Chomi which ruled Pitori some years ago when he dropped it. With this song, you are dead in the middle of Pitori, experiencing the atmosphere and lifestyle of its people through Skillo's tales. The bottom half of the tape is more like a sound switch up as Beatmochini explores different uptempo beats here. We get another familiar song in the previously released joint titled Sabola that was dropped on Skillo's birthday recently. Yet another display of flow flexibility. This is insane! Skillo is a total chameleon on this EP. We close the project with a highly instrumental jam titled Ho Blyne which is right along the lines of Slow It Down in content but has the production similarity of How I Do in that synthetic bass. An ode to courage and never giving up, you kinda get Khuli Chana nostalgia on this Motswako number yet he sounds nothing like him in his delivery.

If you never rated Skillo, you ought to be astounded at how insanely talented he is in this display. Again, you can tell that this project was done a long time ago in some of the production by Beatmochini as well as Skillo's references here and there. One thing stands undeniable though, Skillo is a force to be reckoned with.
