@YoungstaCpt x @JdashBeatz - Kaapstads Revenge

Baba Yaga, a.k.a The Boogeyman, a.k.a YoungstaCpt is dropping two mixtapes today with J-Beatz and another with Loopsta. Let's start you off with the boom bap packed Kaapstads Revenge which is definitely dedicated to his people in the Republic of Cape Town. The 7 track mixtape is literally a faded coast through Youngsta's feelings about the game, being in the limelight and his continued hunger to keep working harder and harder. The concept of his work ethic is also carried through in his second mixtape, How To Make It In South Africa.

From the opening title track, you get a sense of "we mean business" in Youngsta's tone as he croons the chorus. There's a certain cadence in the production on this tape. It sounds like the soundtrack of a slow motion scene in an action movie. We think you will love the fact that Youngsta's delivery on this tape is very slow, clear and executed with precision. This is not to say that he never does the aforementioned, however, he has an extremely laid back approach to his multiple flows on Kaapstads Revenge. As FLOPPY falls in, the slow motion movie scene continues in your mind and you imagine Youngsta drive by with his hand hanging out the window of a topless gusheshe as he raps along to the song. So ghetto fabulous!

If you listen closer, and are a fan of Youngsta's music, you will notice a lot of similarities to his older tracks as he references his own music for some songs here. For instance, We Go Bos sounds like it was born from Weskaap. That beat and flow could easily merge into either track in a DJ mix. I think this is my favourite track on the tape, especially when he sings a TKZee line in one of the verses. GO YOUNGSTA! Famous Status is a party that carries on from the previous track. It's got that "the aim is not to sweat" vibe to it. We have to make another mention of how incredible the production on here is. J-Beatz literally sat in the late 80's-early-90's for this tape. Every element off each beat gives you that Biggie, Pac, Snoop era (added with the subtle samples in the music of course). We close off the tape with While The City Was Asleep, which spawns off another track of his, Sleep Is For The Rich, only delivered in a more diary-esque, personal style. Here, Youngsta strips down his gangster to let us into those 2AM-in-the-studio thoughts. Beautiful music! Mind you, this is only the first tape. Crazy.
